WHO
THE HELL IS GHOSTLIGHT?
ghostlight is...
... a small, nomadic theater group with an office in salem, nh, and a
new "home base" partnership with chester college of new england. since our
founding in 2004, we've performed in chester, concord, derry, milford,
nashua, portsmouth and salem new hampshire, as well as provincetown,
newburyport, and boston, massachusetts. the list, no doubt, will continue
to grow.
ghostlight is...
... a non-profit, federally recognized 501(c)(3) tax exempt arts
organization that would appreciate your donations. Please send your contribution
to: ghostlight theater co. of new
england, 258 main street, salem, nh 03079.
ghostlight
is...
... proud to be the official theatrical partner of chester college of new
england, located in chester, new hampshire. many of our productions take place
on their campus, and many of their students serve internships and other
positions with our company.
ghostlight
is...
...obsessed with bringing new, different theatrical experiences to the
local theater scene and finding new ways to convince audiences to re-examine
their prejudices about the art form. whether producing machine-gun-laden
shakespeare, zombie epics, or controversial plague-dramas,
ghostlight is actively looking to challenge, provoke, and excite
audiences.
ghostlight
is...
... a multi-award winning theater group. our group has been recognized
(sometimes repeatedly) by the new hampshire theatre awards, the aact state and
regional festivals, and the new england fringe festival.
ghostlight is...
... not afraid of failure. not everything we've ever experimented with has
worked, and we think that's wonderful! we believe that art without risks is no
longer art. when a playwright or director has an idea that other companies have
turned down as too risky or avant garde, ghostlight
is ready to listen, and when a ghostlight patron
attends a performance, they expect to see something they've never seen before.
ghostlight
is...
... in love with introducing new scripts and venues to the region. ghostlight
has (to date) de-virginized (at least) 10 scripts to the area and 4 venues. we
believe in found space and creating opportunities.
ghostlight
is...
... far less interested in trying to be like broadway, and far more
interested in being the theatrical equivilent of a jackson pollock painting.
ghostlight is...
... hoping you join us. be an actor. be a crew member. most importantly, be
an audience member.

GHOSTLIGHT'S VISION STATEMENT
-
To stretch the
traditional boundaries of what is considered "standard" subject and
style in regional community theatre by exploring the art form in all
other directions, from the lowest of the "low-brow" to the most
intellectual summits of the "high brow."
-
To encourage local
audiences and performers to expect more of local theatre and of
themselves by providing a safe, experimental theatrical "playground"
in which new ideas can be expressed, and theatrical risks can be fully
realized.
-
To continually prove that
excellence in theatre can be achieved with any sized budget, and in
any setting.
-
Perhaps most importantly:
through utilizing the above methods and engaging in outreach through
non-traditional channels, encouraging those segments of the public
who traditionally remain unengaged from theatre as an artform to
reconsider the impact that theatre can have on their lives.

GHOSTLIGHT'S PHILOSOPHY
The philosophy of
ghostlight theater co. of new england is simply that, just because theatre is USUALLY
created one way, that doesn't mean that it's the only (or even the best!) way
to do it! Brought together purely through love of the artform,
ghostlight
artists work to experiment, try out new ideas (whether it
be through well-known, long-forgotten, or brand new texts), and provide
their audiences with performances that seek to stretch expectations of
what local theater can and should be.
